Dundonnell’s Oak Isle
tune – Long Island

There’s a place in Loch Broom that’s dear to my heart
Where fondest of memories will never depart
It’s a bonny wee spot in so many ways
But o’ how it’s changed since those childhood days.

To that bonny wee spot have returned many times
Appropriate now to perhaps add new lines
Although many changes the place now portrays
Something remains from long bygone days.

The drive from the main road no longer is there
A new driveway formed with thought and with care
It sweeps through the park with grace and with style
An entrance befitting Dundonnell’s ‘Oak Isle’.

Stone pillars erected with pride and with skill.
The driveway commences where once stood the mill
Tastefully landscaped with shrubs and with trees
Ponds and a golf course the eye they do please.

The Lodge in its grandeur completely restored
This beautiful building can not be ignored
The stags on the driveway the Estate do enhance
Part of its history its charm and romance.

The parklands and gardens extended throughout
Not a wee bid in order at the house round about
Carefully tended as they used to be
Returned to their splendour quite clear for to see.

‘Old’ Ivy Cottage the green garden shed
Beyond the horse park we so often did tread
The Steading cementing a link with the past
In that bonny wee spot where our lot it was cast.
