Around Wester Ross
tune – The Road by the River
Around Wester Ross many eye-catching scenes
Of mountains and rivers lochs valleys and streams
Where ere their location I them do admire
To sing of their beauty my thoughts do inspire.
Across Loch nam Dailtean Airigh Charr standing guard
Oft times it was viewed by the old Tournaig bard
In bright winter sunshine the snow does reflect
Hand painted by nature no human defect.
The Ewe at the narrows a setting supreme
A picture of beauty when frost sharp and keen
The winter sun spreading its radiant glow
Encasing the valley and river below.
Loch Maree from the view point no need more to say
We also do view it from Tollie Farm bay
The tree covered islands where legends remain
Many words have been written all worthy of fame.
Loch Tollie so often a sight to behold
The mountains reflecting clearly and bold
On many occasions I’ve stopped there to view
The colours responding in contrasting hue.
The scenes I have chosen are all close to hand
Respect for their beauty they surely command
In summer and winter, autumn and spring
A charm and delight to Wester Ross they do bring.
Those who live in Wester Ross will appreciate Hector’s scenes. The scenery changes day by day, week by week and season by season. The sealochs glitter when the sun shines. The water changes from deep indigo, to light blue with patches of emerald. The mountains can be etched black against the intense blue skies. They can glow when the orange sun wraps them in warmth. The rivers tumble and froth or glide serenely. The lochs mirror the hills. From winter’s frosts to spring’s awakenings – from summer’s suns to autumn’s rains we are truly lucky to have some pictures on our doorsteps.
