The Lockdown
tune – The Long Island

I sit by myself with a dram in my hand
I think of the troubles befallen the land
No more can we visit our friends as before
Oh how do I yearn for the ‘good’ days of yore.

Our friends and relations no more we can see
No more ceilidh nights so calm and carefree
We look to the future perchance before long
When again we can gather and sing a wee song.

We think of relations residing not here
To ‘lockdown’ restrictions they too must adhere
Though unable to travel, desire remains strong
Perhaps now the time to link thoughts to a song.

Many friends they have moved to places away
For various reasons no more here to stay
But with friends and relations who here do remain
We’ll meet as permitted – old ways to retain.

Dear families apart we all wish to see
As yet we don’t know when ere it will be
We hope and we pray that the virus be tamed
We trust with new vaccines it will be contained.

In the meantime restrictions duty-bound to obey
To fight this pandemic our ‘part’ we will play
From ‘bending’ the rules we all must refrain
Until we can safely meet loved ones again.
