The Photo on the Wall
tune – Red River Valley
I sit in my room and keep glancing
The old photo that hangs on the wall
Many years ago it was taken
Its image now me does enthral.
Thoughts recollect when we stayed there
Pleasant memories retained from the past
Remembering loved ones who lived there
The years have gone by all too fast
Many changes have since overtaken
No back garden where once children played
No caravan way up in the corner
No trees for shelter or shade.
The car garage changed to a unit
The van garage no longer there
Demolished in the good name of progress
To me the corner looks bare.
The wall at the front held a garden
Where roses and honeysuckle grew|
Removed for additional parking
Well remember their fragrance and hue.
The years have gone by undetected
Many changes we see all around
Not only confined to one photo
Round about many changes are found.
We wonder if like minded people
Look at photos and where they belong
Concluded they can’t stop the changes
But record them in verse and in song.
