FROM INVERASDALE TO POOLEWE - HECTOR MACKENZIE'S SONGS
The Post Box
tune - Shanagolden
I had a commission a post box for to make
It had to be proportional of that make no mistake
Smaller than the old one the one it did replace
But big enough for packages and envelopes to trace.
After much discussion a shoe box size would do
But this caused some confusion depending on the shoe
Concluding from more phone calls dimensions were agreed
Adhered to all instructions as the ‘lady’ she decreed.
It had to be substantial for a nameplate on the door
Not just flimsy plywood as the old one was before
No more to hold large parcels the contents not to squeeze
But be delivered to the house the ‘lady’ for to please.
But alas a problem the door a bit too small
The nameplate somewhat larger than the size I did recall
Some minor alterations now fixed above the door
Visible for all to view just as it was before.
The box now in position fixed firmly to a post
The ‘lady’ quite delighted the envy of Brown Coast
Tourists stop to view it from the cars and camper vans
The driveway quite congested, chaos and traffic jams!
The situation now in hand the post box there to stay
Now no more confusion no need for more to say
The Royal Mail they’re happy they know what it can hold
The ‘lady’ she’s elated her story can be told.
