FROM INVERASDALE TO POOLEWE - HECTOR MACKENZIE'S SONGS
The Old Oak Tree
Tune - Oran a Chaiora
We have a photo in the hallway
And it shows an old oak tree
When I glance at it in passing
The old oak tree entices me
There it is so proudly standing
Generations come and go
Surely witnessed untold changes
As the seasons ebb and flow.
The old oak tree secure and stable
Underneath its branches stood
In sequence saw the colours changing
As it acknowledged nature’s mood
Now and then I journey northward
Just to see the old oak tree
In vision clearly see a portrait
Depicting scenes that used to be.
Just by chance one summer’s evening
All those many years ago
The old oak tree came into focus
As the photo it does show
It formed the background for a picture
That has come alive for me
A wee boy and Dad were ‘captured’
Just beyond the old oak tree.
Famous trees are well recorded
And their history on line
But the old oak tree is special
Golden memories do define
Many trees adorn the valley
Leading to the old oak tree
But the image in the hallway
Confirms the tree that’s prized by me.
