As Hector’s words explain returning to Coile Eagascaig would bring back many varied and vivid memories.
He was employed at Tournaig Estate for a short period and well remembers the times when he went to the old stone bothy with the family’s pet collie dog Lark.
As he approached Coile Eagascaig his thoughts would settle on the bothy and how the Tournaig Bard made use of the building when composing songs.
It was a peaceful place.

Coile Eagascaig
tune – The Waters of Kylesku

I walked to Coile Eagascaig
Where oft I’ve walked before
Left behind a troubled world
A pandemic to the fore

The wood provides a sanctuary
A place to find relief
A peaceful and a safe retreat
From a world encased with grief.

When first I walked to Eagascaig
The steps of youth were strong
We’d sometimes make a detour
Our visits to prolong

With hope and aspirations
For a future bright and bold
The world at our disposal
Life’s ‘pathway’ to unfold.

When ere I walk to Eagascaig
‘Return’ to bygone days
Youthful memories come to mind
Before parting of the ways

Required to change direction
An apprenticeship to gain
But always in my heart I knew
I’d go back there again.

Each time I walk to Eagascaig
Throughout the span of time
Reflecting as the years march on
My footsteps show decline

When I approach the forest edge
Stored memories come along
Tonight I’ll write some chosen words
And record them in a song.

Since first I walked to Eagascaig
The days of youth have passed
The ‘spring’ has gone from aging steps
Many years have now elapsed

But always my endeavour still
To spend free time up there
The old stone bothy welcomes me
Its history pleased to share.
