FROM INVERASDALE TO POOLEWE - HECTOR MACKENZIE'S SONGS
Loch Maree.
June 2023.
Tune – These are my Mountains
I sing of a loch that’s well known to me
Famous world wide the great Loch Maree
Legends remaining and rich in folklore
And Maelrubha’s Isles to probe and explore.
Maree from the viewpoint alluring and bold
On postcards and face book its image is sold
Promoting much beauty the wide world to see
Loch Maree in its grandeur a pleasure to me.
When viewed from the roadside above Tollie Bay
Loch Maree in all seasons compelling each day
Airidh Charr in attendance enhances the scene
Adjusting its colours, brown, blue, grey and green.
From Spring through to Winter, Maree it is rare
Reflections a changing no scene can compare
Throughout all the country it’s surely supreme
Royals came calling – stole the heart of a Queen.
Many songs have been written sweet their refrain
It formed a “home” backdrop for a Cd of fame
Along “Dusty Roads” and through “Distant Glens”
The tracks on the Cd are pure Highland gems.
Now as I draw these few lines to a close
Loch Maree it’s immortal let no one oppose
And as in “The Layby” respect does demand
A portrait commissioned by “Higher” command.
